Wellie
$45,000 - Negotiable to perfect home!

Picture
Wellie is truly the Adult Amateur's dream horse! Standing around 16.0hh, this 9yo Dutch Harness gelding puts a smile on everyone's face. What started as a 6-month resale project quickly turned into a 4 year stay here because he's just been so sweet and easy to keep around. Wellie is barefoot with zero current maintenance while ridden 5-6 days a week, and is the same horse whether worked every day or once a week! He is easy as can be for the vet and farrier, walks right onto the trailer every time, and stands quietly tied at shows (as long as the haybag is full!)

Wellie is capable of really shining in the dressage rings with scores in the upper 60's at both 1st and 2nd level and top 5 placings at each of his 2025 outings thus far. He finds his lateral work to be very easy and with a little more fitness work he'll be ready to start tackling his changes. He has a light jumping foundation as well and seems to really find it fun! In October 2023 he won the Ocala Barnstaple Eventing Derby at Intro(2'3") with only 2 weeks to prepare and one single XC school prior to the show. He currently jumps small fences once or twice a month to add some variety to his life.

Wellie is a horse with more woah than go at home, and strongly appreciates a rider with an active seat to maintain the tempo. At shows, he carries himself nicely forward, though he does appreciate a quiet and confident rider who can remind him that monsters don't live in flowerpots. He is extremely easy to keep on the bit, and does all of his work in a snaffle or rubber Nathe. On the occasion that he does spook, he is honest and easy to stick with, and is not inclined to buck/bolt/rear. Although safe enough for a complete beginner, Wellie would prefer a rider with at least a basic foundation, or who is in a full training program with a professional.

Wellie is genuinely the soundest horse in the barn, and has no stable vices. He was seen in September by a sports medicine specialist at OEH for a basic yearly evaluation and was proclaimed the "soundest horse they've seen in months!" with zero current maintenance needs. Overall, there's not a single negative thing to say about this sweet, flashy boy.  As much as he is absolutely loved here, the time has come for him to find a human who can show him off in the show rings the way he deserves!!
