Royal is a 4yo 16.1hh OTTB gelding located in Ocala, FL. He raced 2 times and was rather uninspired to beat the field. He was retired sound by his breeder, and came to me in July 2021. Being only 3, I saw no need to rush him into a new life. He got some time to just be a horse, grow his feet, and enjoy the Florida sun. I had every intention of restarting him at 4yo, but due to a drastic career change, I just have not had the time! He is lightly restarted and is proving to be a very sweet and willing guy! He does lack a bit of confidence and would do best with a patient and consistent rider. Videos below are from his 5th time over fences, and he is at about 30-40 rides total.
Royal has an incredibly careful jump, and is bound to make waves in the Show Jumping ring! He is still working out the landing gear, but he is easy to turn and holds a steady and balanced pace, making it very easy to spot your stride on. He seems to very much enjoy working over fences, and while he has only jumped 4-5 times, he is showing a tremendous amount of promise. He should progress quickly! On the flat, he needs to learn to come over his back and trust that he can stretch into the contact. He is pretty committed to the frame he was given as a racehorse, but is starting to explore the contact a little further. With time he is going to be a lovely prospect!
He is a sweet guy and deserves a forever home. I see him excelling in the jumper ring or lower levels of Eventing. He does require a tactful rider with a light seat/hand/leg and can be a bit insecure. He needs a patient rider with the tools to help him through his (rather sporadic) fears. For this reason he would do best with an ambitious YR or Adult Amateur in a program. Given his age and experience level I do recommend he go somewhere where he can have at least 30-90 days in a consistent program.
Royal has no injuries, spent 10 months barefoot growing a solid and healthy foot, has passed basic flexions when he first came home to me, and is UTD on vet/dental/chiro/massage work. He still has some unraveling to do in his body, but he is getting looser and more comfortable in his own skin by the day. He is a light cribber but is very easily controlled with a strap.
